Self Care Recommendations |
1. Do NOT leave
your
computer on and unattended for long periods of time 2 When you shut down your computer, take the additional precaution of turning it off from the back power supply switch. If that is not available turn it off at the power bar - when you do a START - SHUTDOWN the computer is actually still LIVE and ON - when the system is COMPLETELY OFF you will minimize the change of POWER SURGE DAMAGE - we replace about 300 power supplies per year. We are ONE Computer Store. Do the MATH. - about 60% of these incidents can be resolved by replacing the power supply - the remainder have more serious problems that may include: MOTHERBOARD, CPU, RAM, HARD DRIVE(s), YOUR DATA etc., etc.Get the picture? 3. Make sure you have a good surge surpressor to protect against power surges. Spend $30 - $50 not $5 -$10 4. If you computer does not start, that is: -NOTHING APPEARS ON THE SCREEN from the time you hit the power button . Then UNPLUG the COMPUTER FROM THE POWER and have it checked immediately. Reason: If the power supply is damaged you could be sending BAD POWER through your system causing more damage to your system. This is a COMPUTER NOT a CAR on a Cold Winter Morning. 5. Remember to have you computer inspected, fans checked and dust removed at least once a year. -one more reason NOT to LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER ON for long periods of time UNATTENDED Reason: You computer system has several fans to cool CPU, Power Supply , Case and Video Card. Systems usually draw cool air in from the front bottom of the computer and blow hot air out the top back. The dust does not make it out of the computer and collects inside the computer like a Vacuum bag. This dust coats all of the fans and heat sinks causing blockage and progressively poor heat dissipation Finally causing irreparable damage due to overheating. Buzzing , whining or other unusual noises coming from your computer usually means Trouble. 6. Today, most people are connected full time to the internet. Problem: This can greatly increase the risk of hackers or virus infections getting into your system. Your system can be used by these hacker and virus's to contaminate other computer on the internet. My philosophy is that that you should be in touch with all machines and devices that you use whether Computers, TVs, VCRs, Cellphones, Power Tools or Cars. Know what is normal. React
and ask for
advice if something seems abnormal.
